AUBURN — Douglas Ladd, 82, passed away Thursday, May 31, at Clover Health Care in Auburn, after a brief illness.
He was born, June 22, 1935, in Sherbrooke, Quebec, to the late Raymond and Francis Goggin Ladd. Douglas grew up in Lennoxville, Quebec, Canada, where he attended school, played hockey and raced motorcycles. He married Shirley White in 1957. Douglas and Shirley and their baby daughter, Sharon, moved to Massachusetts in 1960. They moved to Londonderry, New Hampshire, in 1966, where they raised their three daughters.
Douglas retired from Anheuser-Busch in Merrimack, New Hampshire, after 29 years of work as a maintenance mechanic. He loved country music, was an avid square dancer and played guitar and sang. After retirement, he volunteered his talents, performing with his friend Hawk Mayhew at various nursing homes. Douglas was known as a good friend to many people. In 2014, he moved to Clover Health Care in Maine, to be closer to his daughter, Janet, and her husband, Richard Brzozowski.
Douglas leaves his wife of 60 years, Shirley White Ladd, of Auburn, Maine, and his three daughters; Sharon Stalker of Hershey, Pennsylvania; Janet Brzozowski of New Gloucester; Maine; and Kelly Chevalier of Lynn, Massachusetts. He was very proud of his grandchildren: Joseph Brzozowski, Briana Stalker Wolgemuth, Gabriel Brzozowski, Ian Stalker, Hannah Brzozowski, Ethan Chevalier and Emma Chevalier; and great-grandson, Levi Brzozowski. He is also survived by his sister, Audrey Ladd Firth, of Mount Gilead, North Carolina.
Besides his parents, Douglas was predeceased by brothers: Raymond Ladd and Austin Ladd; and two sisters: Francis Loach and Sylvia Patton.
