DEAR SUN SPOTS: Is there anyone in the Lewiston-Auburn area who buys costume jewelry? —No name, no town

ANSWER: Depending on the condition and the vintage of your jewelry, most consignment shops in the area would probably be interested in taking a look at what you have. You’ll want to call ahead and see what the process of each individual store is. Some buyers want only items that are not more than a certain age while others welcome vintage items. They may want you to make an appointment. Try New to You Consignments at 16 Summer St. (207-330-5138) and Juliet’s Clothing, at Center Street Plaza, 120 Center St. (207-784-2884). Both stores are in Auburn.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: I have a Kodak Carousel 760H projector and recently tried to view some old slides. Apparently, a slide is jammed in the carousel. I have not been able to locate anyone in the area who might be able to help me. Do you know where I could get help with this?

I am a dedicated reader and will watch for your reply. Thanks for all you do for our community. —No name, no town

ANSWER: Oh yes, I know exactly what you’re talking about as this has happened to me many times when trying to look at old slides. It’s so frustrating! There is a website where you can print out a manual for your slide projector. (www.manualslib.com/manual/913502/Kodak-Carousel-760.html?page=6#manual). I think this manual would help you, as it shows diagrams and has many tips for troubleshooting.

It could be jamming for a number of reasons. Sometimes the mechanisms need to be oiled or sometimes two slides could be together in the same slot. I remember my dad poking around with a butter knife and a pair of tweezers to get ours unstuck. The problem seemed to come from the heat of the lamp warping the slide mounts.
