LEWISTON — Officials of the Elks Lodge in Lewiston said Friday the lodge is closing abruptly after its charter was suspended.

According to Anne Mackenzie, exalted ruler of Lewiston Elks No. 371, the national Elks organization suspended the group’s charter, and the building at 1675 Lisbon St. is now for sale.

In an email to the Sun Journal on Friday, Mackenzie said, “They have suspended our charter and have locked the doors on us and are selling the building at 1675 Lisbon St. Sorry about the inconvenience. There is no need to promote the Lewiston Elks Lodge anymore.”

An email to Mackenzie and calls to the Elks Lodge were not immediately returned Friday.
