JAY — Selectpersons voted Wednesday to put the Sewer Department’s 2004 Ford Escape out to bid as is, where is.

The vehicle will not pass inspection without costly repairs being made.

The SUV will be advertised on the town Facebook page, on the sign in front of the Town Office and on the side lawn of the office. The board reserved the right to accept or refuse any bids.

Department Superintendent Mark Holt modified the SUV into a work vehicle to save the town gas money. It was purchased at auction for $11,900 in 2008 with less than 30,000 miles on it. Other equipment and a trailer brought the modification expense to about $14,000.

The department had planned to buy a full-size truck with a plow for $40,000 to replace a 1995 truck.

Selectpersons agreed Wednesday to have the Sewer Department use the Town Office’s 2007 Ford Explorer, a former police cruiser, as a work vehicle.

It has 131,910 miles on it, according to Town Manager Shiloh LaFreniere.

If an employee at the Town Office needs to travel for town business, they will use a personal vehicle and be reimbursed for mileage.

In other matters, selectpersons voted, after a hearing, to approve a special entertainment permit for The Bluffs Campground on Davenport Hill Road. The campground was formerly known as Where the Heck Are We Campground. The new owners plan to reopen it and have bands and DJs, LaFreniere said.
