AUBURN — Gilmay I. Cayer, 79, of Lewiston peacefully passed away at the Sarah Frye Home in Auburn on Wednesday, May 23, with her loving family by her side. She was born in Madawaska on Oct. 23, 1938, a daughter of the late Joseph and Irene (Chasse) Fraser. At a young age, her family moved to Lewiston where she attended St. Peter’s School.
On Aug. 30, 1958, she married Ronald A. Cayer at Saints Peter and Paul Church in Lewiston and they enjoyed 57 years together; working hard, building a family and a large circle of friends. By trade she was a homemaker but her greatest joy was as a baby sitter to many children. How she loved rocking and cuddling every new baby that came into her life! Gil loved having her family all together for the holidays. Thanksgiving and Christmas Eve gatherings are forever changed now that she is no longer with us.
Gil is survived by her sons Gerald and wife Tami, Mark and wife Sue, daughters Sandy Thompson and husband Bob, Lorie Morin and husband Mike; grandchildren Joseph Thompson and husband John, Jason-Michael Thompson and wife Cindy, Mark Cayer Jr. and wife Katrina, Michael Cayer and wife Hannah, Tom Carr and wife Jenn, Chelsea, Ethan and Annie Cayer, Nicole, Katie and Dale Morin and nine great-grandchildren: Alexandria, Robert and Gabriella Thompson, Kiarra, Mark III, Natalie, Gavin and Lexi Cayer and Theodore Carr. Her sister, Edwina Madore, and her brother, Nelson (Toots) Fraser, and wife Kathy and many, many dear nieces and nephews.
Gil was predeceased by her husband, Ron, sister, Rena Voisine and husband Norman, brother Camille Fraser and wife Irene.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Sarah Frye Home. We are grateful for the love and care you provided and for the many times you made her laugh. In her final days we are also grateful to the staff at Androscoggin Hospice.
Condolences may be shared with her family at www.thefortingrouplewiston.com.
