PORTLAND — The American Red Cross is counting on volunteer donors to give blood and help ensure patient needs can be met this summer.
Around Memorial Day, the Red Cross sees a steep decline in blood donations. Busy summer schedules, vacations and school breaks also cause a drop in donations. Accidents and medical emergencies don’t take a summer break.
The public is asked to schedule an appointment to help ensure that hospitals and patients have the blood they need this summer. Donors can make an appointment by downloading the free Red Cross Blood Donor App, visiting RedCrossBlood.org or calling 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767).
In thanks, all those who come to donate blood or platelets through June 10 will receive a gift card via E-mail.
Upcoming blood donation opportunities include:
Bridgton: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, June 2, at Saint Josephs Parish, 225 South High St.; and from 1 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 13, at the Masonic Hall, Harrison Road, Route 117.
Harrison: 1 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, May 29, at United Parish Congregational Church of Harrison and North Bridgton, 77 Main St.
Lewiston: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday, May 30, at Community Health Options Lewiston, 36 Chestnut St.
Lisbon Falls: 2 to 7 p.m. Monday, June 4, at Holy Trinity Church, 67 Frost Hill Ave.
Sabattus: 1 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, June 13, at Oak Hill Middle School, 40 Ball Park Road.
