NORWAY — The Cancer Resource Center of Western Maine has announced their June activities, which features two special events. Events are held at the center in the Stephens Memorial Hospital Specialty Clinic building, 199 Main St., unless otherwise noted.
National Cancer Survivor Day Event: 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Friday, June 1. Anyone impacted by cancer and caregivers are invited to celebrate life with luncheon, door prizes and fun.
Welcome to Summer Wellness Event: 12:30 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, June 20 at Posabilities, 15 Tannery St. Registration for all sessions is at 12:30 p.m. A Laughter Yoga session will start the event at 12:45 p.m. From 1 to 2:30 p.m., there will be 15-minute individual sessions of Chair Yoga, Hand Reflexology and Thai Yoga for those who registered. At 2:30 p.m. there will be a Guided Meditation session for all followed by the Yoga Warriors class from 3 to 4. Call 207-890-0329 for more information.
Yoga Warriors: 3 to 4 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, at Posabilities. This free gentle yoga class supports healthy living for individuals facing the challenges of cancer through gentle movement and breath, supportive restorative yoga postures and guided mediation and relaxation. Preregistration is encouraged. Register by calling 207-890-0329 or by arriving 15 minutes early the day of class.
Banding Together To Restore: 10 to 11 a.m. Mondays, June 4, 11, 18 and 25, at Richard Bader Physical Therapy, 176 Main St., Norway. The program, lead by Lori Britting, is focused on regaining motion and strength through guided instruction using stretching and colored Therabands. Preregistration is encouraged. Register by calling 207-890-0329 or by arriving 15 minutes early the day of class.
Yoga for Wellness: 8 to 9 a.m. Fridays. Either Kat Larsen or Sherri will teach the class at the center. It will include breathing, movement and relaxing meditation while seated or standing.
Self Reiki: 1:30 to 3 p.m. Tuesday, June 26 (note new day and time). Charlotte LaBelle of Teresia Reiki will demonstrate how Reiki helps to alleviate stress and promote relaxation.
Stampin’ Up: 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 6. Kathy will provide materials and instruction to make a variety of cards. It’s fun and easy to do.
Beginning Steps to Paint with Watercolors: 1 to 3 p.m. June 21. Suzanne Hardy will teach the beginning steps to paint with watercolors. Learn what materials are needed and practice basic techniques. Registration requested due to class size limit. Call 207-890-0329.
All programs are free to anyone impacted by cancer, survivors and caregivers, and are encouraged to bring a friend with them. New visitors are welcome to stop by for information any Thursday or Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and to join in one or all of the activities.
