DEAR SUN SPOTS: I participate in a non-contact boxing program that helps me fight back against the disabling effects of Parkinson’s disease. I waited three years for a program like this to be offered in Lewiston-Auburn. I am writing to get the word out that we are in need of volunteers to help “boxers” adapt exercise and provide encouragement during the 90-minute workouts on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings. Volunteers will make it possible for more people with Parkinson’s disease to participate. If you are interested in volunteering for Rock Steady Boxing, call Kelly at 576-1529.

— Martha, no town

ANSWER: What a wonderful opportunity for volunteering. There is a very great need for volunteers as more and more people are diagnosed with this debilitating condition and really benefit from this therapy.

Rock Steady Boxing is based on training used by boxing pros and adapted to people with Parkinson’s disease. The program, serving all ages and levels of ability, involves regular exercises, such as stretching, running, jumping rope, push-ups, balancing and non-contact boxing, led by experienced trainers/coaches.

McMorrow, who died Nov. 10, 1969, in service to his country in the Marine Corps while on active duty in the Vietnam War.

The reunion committee is asking James’ fellow classmates for a suggested donation of $25, or whatever one wishes to give, to purchase a memorial bench in his honor. Please make checks payable to LHS ’68 Veteran Memorial Fund and mail to 490 Maple Hill Road, Auburn, ME 04210.
