AUBURN — The L-A Community Little Theatre will hold open auditions for the hit musical comedy “Young Frankenstein” at 6 p.m. on May 27 and 28, at the Great Falls Performing Arts Center on Academy Street in Auburn.
Doctor Frederick Frankenstein inherits his family’s estate in Transylvania. With the help of a hunchbacked sidekick and a leggy lab assistant, Frederick finds himself in the mad scientist shoes of his ancestors as he brings to life a monster to rival one of his grandfather’s creatures. Eventually, of course, the monster escapes and hilarity continuously abounds.
With music and lyrics by Mel Brooks and book by Brooks and Thomas Meehan, the show was nominated for three Tony Awards and a Grammy, and won the Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Musical.
Audition readings will be conducted in groups before an audience. Auditioners may be asked to tell a joke!
For the closed vocal auditions, an accompanist will be present, and the show score will be available for anyone wishing to sing a number from the show. Those not singing from the show must bring their own sheet music. No prerecorded music or acapella performances will be accepted.
There will be a general dance audition and a tap session. Dance or jazz shoes are recommended but not required. (No jeans or open-toed shoes). Time will be allotted for changing into appropriate dance attire following the vocal auditions.
Anyone auditioning for the show must be at least 16. Parents of actors under 18 should be very familiar and comfortable with the show material. More information, character descriptions, and special vocal requirements can be found online at www.laclt.com/audition.
