LEWISTON — Maine Event Comedy is offering a stand-up workshop led by 28-year comedy veteran Mark Scalia. The session will take place Friday, Aug. 3 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. at Bear Bones Beer in Lewiston.
The workshop is designed for stand-up comedians of all levels who are interested in improving their act, sharpening their material, and furthering their comedy career.
With nearly three decades in the Boston scene, Scalia has entertained tens of thousands of people at comedy clubs, colleges, universities, corporate events, and private venues across the United States and Canada. He is the founder and producer of the annual Salem Comedy & Spirits Festival and is an accomplished writer, director, acting instructor, and voice-over artist.
“I’m thrilled to have Mark Scalia lead this workshop,” said Maine Event Comedy’s Mark Turcotte. “He’s a seasoned comedian with experience in acting and directing. He has a unique set of skills to provide valuable feedback on all aspects of performance.”
Instruction will cover joke writing and delivery; stage presence and confidence; why something is and isn’t funny; how to set up your act; and business ins and outs.
A special sale price of $80 is available through May 31. The price will increase to $100 on June 1. Registration is limited to 10 participants and the fee includes donuts in the morning, pizza for lunch, and bottled water.
