BRUNSWICK — St. Dom’s scored three goals in a minute-and-a-half span early in the game and seven Saints scored in a 17-2 girls’ lacrosse victory over Brunswick on Saturday.

Charlotte Gastonguay netted five goals and assisted on another four to pace the Saints. She was one of seven St. Dom’s players to score.

“We try to get everyone involved,” the freshman said. “We have a bunch of scorers, so we pass it around for the right shot.”

Gastonguay netted the first score two minutes into the game off an assist from junior Avery Lutrzykowski. Following another Gastonguay score, Lutrzykowski assisted on a Mia-Angelina Leslie tally, prompting a Brunswick timeout with 21:30 left in the half.

Lutrzykowski once again set up Gastonguay minutes later with a thread-the-needle pass to Gastonguay in front of the net that the freshman was able to slip past Brunswick goalie Mikaela Aschbrenner for the score.

“We work very hard on our passes,” Saints coach Leslie Klenk said. “We stress patience and look for the right opportunities.”

“It helps us to know where one another is going to be,” Gastonguay said. “Passing is something we take pride in because we know it makes things happen.”

St. Dom’s added nine more unanswered goals — starting the running clock after the 10th — to take a 13-0 lead at halftime.

Gastonguay had four first-half tallies and Emma Theriault netted three scores for the Saints. Lutrzykowski and Caroline Gastonguay each had a pair, while Eisa Lee and Leslie rounded out the scoring in the first 25 minutes.

Aschbrenner made six saves during the Saints’ 20-shot attack in the opening half.

After the break, Brunswick came out with a little more fire, scoring less than two minutes into the half when Colleen McKearney found Beth Labbe in the middle of traffic in front of the net with a pass that Labbe promptly pushed across for the Dragons first shot and goal of the game.

“I told them at halftime to keep working on the things we’ve practiced,” Brunswick coach Brittany Vogt said. “It’s been so much fun watching these girls learn the game of lacrosse and get better each day. Even in a game like today, you can watch them in warm-ups and see how far along they’ve come.”

The excitement of the Brunswick goal was short-lived as the Saints answered with a Caroline Gastonguay goal off Lutrzykowski’s fifth assist of the game.

Brunswick was able to get nine shots off in the second half, scoring another goal midway through the half. Labbe once again scored off a McKearney helper.

“Regardless of the score, we don’t give up,” McKearney said. “Coach has been awesome this year and we’ve learned a lot. We’re getting better and take away nothing but positive things from today’s game against a very good team. They played with a lot of sportsmanship today, so it made it easier for us to work on our game.”

The Saints finished the day with 25 shots to Brunswick’s nine, while controlling the draws 17-4.

Charlotte Gastonguay added four assists to go with her five goals, while her sister Caroline had three assists to go with her three goals. Lutrzykowski and Theriault also each finished with three scores on the day. Rileigh Stebbins, Lee and Leslie netted the remaining goals for the Saints.

Aschbrenner made nine saves in net for the Dragons, while Simone Long stopped three in net for the Saints.

St. Dom’s improves to 6-2 with the win and will travel to Greely on Tuesday to face the Class B Rangers.

Brunswick falls to 3-6 and travels to face Morse on Monday at 5 p.m.
