LIVERMORE — The GFWC/Livermore Falls Women’s Club met at the Masonic Hall for the April meeting.
Guest speaker was Stephanie Crowe of Seek Elderly Alone, Renew Courage and Hope (SEARCH), which provides volunteer support services to seniors in Androscoggin and Franklin counties. The need in Franklin County is the highest rate for these services.
Crowe spoke of the need for support for seniors who live alone by providing companionship and friendly visits, help with errands, telephone support, working in the home and yard and referring other community services and programs when needed.
She said that to become a volunteer one needs to go through an application, background and license check, needs three references and have an interview. People of all ages can apply. She has seniors, high school and college students and moms with children.
The second half of the meeting was the awarding of membership pins. This is the first time in the history of the club that membership pins have been awarded.
President Ellen Young awarded the following members with their pins:
Five-year pins, Christine Fournier, Pam King, Bonnie Perkins, Lisa Townsend and Ellen Young; 10-year pins, Lucille Lavoie, Barbara Latelien and Gail Slade; 15-year pin, Phyllis Anctil; 20-year pins, Nancy Conant and Betty Forbes; 25-year pin, Barbara Hathaway; 30-year pin, Ruth Gammon; 35-year pin, Bettty Nichols; and 40-year pin, Muriel Bowerman.
The next meeting will be at the Harris House, 45 Brookside Ave., Livermore Falls, on Thursday, May 24. Lunch will be served by their staff and the meeting will begin at 11:30 a.m.
The meeting was adjourned and the members had birthday cake in celebration of the federation’s 128th year. Refreshments were provided by Sue Sylvester and Lucille Lavoie and the birthday cake was made by Chris Judd.
