AUBURN — Auditions for a new play, “American Dreams: Immigration Stories,” will be held Monday, May 21, and Tuesday, May 22, at 6:30 pm, at the First Universalist Church of Auburn, 169 Pleasant St.

The play is written and directed by Linda Britt, and co-produced by Community Little Theatre and UU Theater. Britt explores the immigration experience through characters from Africa, Latin America, Eastern and Western Europe and Asia. It will be presented as a staged reading at CLT on June 29 and 30.

Britt is seeking actors for 26 monologues, with an interest in diversity of all kinds (race, gender, age, etc.). There are more roles for younger actors (teens-20s), but character ages range from 17 to 65. Auditions will consist of a cold reading; material will be provided. No memorization or stage experience is required, although it is encouraged. The director will work individually with actors as their schedules permit. One required dress rehearsal will be held on June 28.

Linda Britt is an award-winning director and playwright. Her plays have been produced from Maine to California, and three (“Chosen,” “Mirrors and Memories,” and “Mrs. Smith Goes to Washington”) have recently been published. Three of the plays she directed with Out of the Box Theater Company (“Medea,” “Death of a Salesman,” and “Hamlet)” were honored by the New England Theatre Conference, two with Moss Hart awards for outstanding performance by a community theater, and the third with an honorable mention in the same category.
