POLAND — The Regional School Unit 16 board of directors Monday added $50,000 to next year’s proposed budget, bringing it to just under $22.3 million.
Superintendent Tina Meserve said Tuesday that the additional money will pay for another teacher at Poland Community School, where kindergarten enrollment has been higher than expected.
If passed, the budget will represent a 3.7 percent increase over this fiscal year, which ends June 30. It would increase property taxes on a $100,000 house by $99.63 in Minot, $92.45 in Mechanic Falls and $65.01 in Poland.
RSU 16 will hold a districtwide meeting Monday, May 21, to outline the suggested budget. Residents of Mechanic Falls, Minot and Police will vote that evening to keep the amount as proposed or lower it.
That meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m. at Poland Regional High School.
At that meeting, residents will also vote on moving forward with a regional partnership with Auburn, Lewiston and SAD 52 in Turner, though such a partnership will not impact the budget, Meserve said.
The budget that is approved at the May 21 district meeting will go to voters for validation on Tuesday, June 12.
