AUBURN — A Wilton man and a New York man are being held on $50,000 cash bail each, after Maine drug agents and state police seized heroin and cocaine destined for Wilton, according to Stephen McCausland, spokesman for the Maine Department of Public Safety.
Agents from the Western District Task Force and state police seized 128 grams of heroin and 33 grams of cocaine after they stopped a vehicle on the Maine Turnpike in Auburn on Tuesday afternoon, McCausland said in a news release.
The Maine Drug Enforcement Agency arrested Rashawn Gregory Brown, 41, of Harlem, New York, and Jeffrey Scott Brown, 53, of Wilton and charged each with felony aggravated trafficking in heroin, unlawful trafficking in cocaine and illegal importation of heroin and cocaine, according to McCausland.
A conviction on the aggravated heroin trafficking is punishable by a maximum 30 years in prison and $50,000 fine, while the other three charges are punishable by a maximum 10 years in prison and up to $20,000 fine.
Rashawn Brown, also known as William Anderson, and Jeffrey Brown, are not related.
“For the past two months, MDEA and the Wilton Police Department have been conducting a joint investigation into heroin and cocaine trafficking in the Wilton area,” McCausland wrote.
Rashawn Brown has been using local hotels as a base of operations to the sell the drugs, according to McCausland.
The heroin has a street value of $40,000 and the cocaine’s value is between $6,500 and $7,000.
The two men made an initial appearance at the 8th District Court in Lewiston on Wednesday and both are begin held at the Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn.
Drug agents are continuing the investigations and additional arrests are likely, McCausland wrote.
