BRUNSWICK — After each team scored a run in the first inning, Lewiston was able to scrape together a run each in the fourth and fifth innings to hold off Brunswick 3-2 in a Class A North baseball game on Tuesday.
Ben Chasse of Lewiston (4-3) pitched 1 2/3 innings in relief and earned the win. Elias Atkins hit a triple that drove in a run for the Blue Devils and Jack LeBlond also contributed two hits.
Chris Duntun of Brunswick (3-6) smacked two singles and added an RBI. The Dragons outhit the Blue Devils, 6-5.
Buckfield 12, Waynflete 1
PORTLAND — Buckfield pitcher Tyler Gammon pitched a five inning no-hitter against Waynflete to get the win, 12-1, in a baseball game Tuesday.
Gammon pitched five innings with eight strikeouts for the Bucks (3-3). Buckfield was also helped by Ethan Jackson who went 3-for-4 with a triple and four runs batted in and also by Zach Grover who went 2-for-3 with two runs batted in.
Waynflete is now 1-6 on the season.
Winthrop 23, Wiscasset 1
WISCASSET — Winthrop pushed across 21 runs in the first three innings to defeat Wiscasset 23-1 in a baseball matchup Tuesday.
Winthrop (2-3) amassed 12 hits including multiple hits from Greg Fay and Carson Camick to seal the win. Cameron Wood earned the win.
Wiscasset is now 0-7.
Spruce Mountain 14, Mountain Valley 5
RUMFORD — Spruce Mountain got six solid innings from Bryson Bailey and defeated Mountain Valley 14-5 in a Class B South baseball game Tuesday.
Spruce Mountain (3-4) pushed five runners across in the first inning and two in the second, thanks in part to Brent Hunt, Shane Pelletier, and Hunter Dalton who all managed two hits each.
Mountain Valley (4-2) received a homerun from Will Bean.
Softball
Madison 14, Dirigo 0
DIXFIELD — Lauria LeBlanc pitched a shutout for Madison as the Bulldogs defeated Dirigo 14-0 in five innings in a Class C South softball matchup.
Madison (7-0) scored just one run in the first inning but scored eight in the third and fourth combined to put away Dirigo (2-5). Ashley Perrault hit a double and pitched for the Cougars in the loss.
Leavitt 5, Erskine 0
TURNER — Hannah Deblois had two hits and two runs batted in for Leavitt as the Hornets shutout Erskine Academy 5-0 in a Class B softball matchup on Tuesday.
Emily Swan of Leavitt (5-4) threw a seven-inning shutout with four strikeouts. Leah Maheux helped the Hornet’s cause by hitting a triple that scored a run.
Kate Hodgkins of Erskine (1-6) pitched six innings.
Spruce Mountain 24, Mountain Valley 1
RUMFORD — Spruce Mountain scored seven runs in the first inning and never looked back, defeating Mountain Valley 24-1 in a softball game Tuesday.
Hannah Turcotte got the win for Spruce Mountain (5-2) in the circle and also hit a two-run home run. Haley Turcotte also hit a three-run homer for the Phoenix. Jenna Martin also chipped in three doubles.
Saydi Garbarini pitched the first inning for Mountain Valley (0-7) before leaving the game in the second due to injury.
