NORWAY — Norway Savings Bank recently made a $15,000 commitment to the Alan Day Community Garden for its Youth Leadership Program. The bank will provide $5,000 in each of the next three years.
The program teaches Oxford Hills middle and high school students how to plant, tend, harvest and prepare healthy, delicious meals using the produce from the garden. The summer program aims to instill confidence, self-reliance and community values in young people while providing opportunities to grow leadership skills and become young health educators.
The Alan Day Community Garden at 26 Whitman St. is dedicated to offering access to affordable, local food by renting garden plots, participating in community-supported agriculture programs and a hosting variety of free workshops. Learn more at alandaycommunitygarden.org.
