LISBON — This week features a key set of games for the Lisbon High School baseball team. A visit to Bridgeway (Madison/Carrabec) on Wednesday is followed by a home date with unbeaten Hall-Dale on Friday.

But first, the Greyhounds had to contend with Wiscasset on Monday — the Wolverines are a team trying to learn the game again after a year away from varsity action.

Expectedly, Lisbon cruised to a 23-0 Mountain Valley Conference win, giving the Greyhounds a perfect 6-0 record, while the Wolverines fell to 0-7.

Lisbon coach Randy Ridley stressed to his team about playing Monday’s game the right way.

“I believe in taking them one game at a time,” Ridley said. “Yes, we figured we would pull this one out in five, and we did, but we have to be mentally prepared to play each game. If you can stay focused here, you will do well. We stressed getting quality at-bats and being mentally focused all the way through.”

Lisbon took advantage of four Wiscasset errors in the opening inning to score nine quick runs. The first two Greyhounds — Noah Austin and DJ Douglass — reached on Wolverine miscues, and Lucas Francis made the visitors pay with two-run double.

Wiscasset starting pitcher Ronald Drake struck out the next two Greyhounds, and picked up his third of the opening inning a few batters later. But, a wild pitch on the third strike kept the inning going.

Austin struck with a long two-run triple to the fence in left field, and Sean Scott plated a run with a single to close out the big first inning.

“We can’t keep giving teams nine, 10 outs an inning, something we have continued to do,” Wiscasset coach Gregg Wood said.

“We have to play every game the right way, and we did that today,” said Scott, who earned the mound win with two shutout innings. He struck out five and walked one, permitting only a Drake single in the first inning. “I have faith in my fielders, so I just try to throw strikes.”

Lisbon tacked on a pair of runs in the second, and made it a 12-0 game in the third.

The Greyhounds put up 11 more in the fourth, with key hits coming from Scott (two-run single) and Jack Tibbetts (two-run single).

On the Wiscasset side, Drake added a walk to his perfect 1-for-1 afternoon, while Ryan Potter and C.J. Kobert each singled as the Wolverines finished with three hits. Earlier in the season, Wiscasset was no-hit three times in four games.

“They are trying to learn the game, and it is a struggle, but I just hope they can stay positive all the way through and try to keep having fun,” said Ridley of Wiscasset, which hosts Winthrop on Tuesday at 4 p.m.

“We just want to keep playing, and it is a process,” Wood said.

Drake pitched two innings, throwing 81 pitches and allowing 11 runs (three earned) on seven hits, three walks and four strikeouts. Andy Hendrickson relieved and went two frames on 12 runs (three earned), two walks and one strikeout. He threw 66 pitches.

Levi Levesque finished for the Greyhounds in relief of Scott, with three innings pitched on three strikeouts, one walk and two hits.

Scott had a game-high three hits and five RBIs, while Austin, Francis, Cole Bolduc and Tibbetts finished with two hits apiece as Lisbon pounded out 15 hits and took advantage of 10 Wiscasset errors.
