GREENE — The Androscoggin Valley Soil and Water Conservation District is holding a pond workshop from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, May 10, at the Schott property, 303 South River Road.
The workshop will cover topics such as pond design, construction, maintenance, location, sizing, troubleshooting, best management practices, pond chemistry, pond and riparian habitat features and fish stocking.
After the classroom portion of the event, attendees will hike to a pond on the property. They should be prepared with proper clothing and footwear for the season. Those who are not able to traverse the uneven land are free to attend just the classroom portion of the workshop. There will be light refreshments mid-morning.
The workshop counts for full recertification in erosion and sediment control by the Maine DEP.
Presenters will be Candi Gilpatric, USDA NRCS agricultural engineer, and Joseph Dembeck, Somerset County Soil and Water Conservation District executive director, who together will share their years of combined knowledge of pond systems.
The registration fee for the workshop is $25 and is due at the Androscoggin Valley SWCD office by Friday, May 4. Space is limited.
To register, contact Jocelyn, Androscoggin Valley Soil and Water Conservation District, at 207-241-5374 or mail a check, payable to AVSWCD, to 254 Goddard Road, Lewiston, ME 04240.
