LIVERMORE FALLS — A planning committee for the Memorial Day Parade in the Jay and Livermore Falls area is seeking members, parade participants and money to cover liability insurance.

“We are really having a struggle because we are in dire need of funding to cover the parade,” member Gail Kerns-Dube said.

Liability insurance has cost about $600 in the past, she said.

Committee members would like to have many people participate in the parade  or involved in its planning.

“This is for our veterans,” she said. 

The committee will meet at 5 p.m. Tuesday, May 1, at the American Legion Hall on Reynolds Avenue in Livermore Falls. Nine people attended the first meeting  Tuesday.

“We need help in order to have the parade,” Kerns-Dube said.

The parade will be held on Memorial Day, May 28. Members of veterans’ organizations will also visit veterans memorials that day in Fayette, Jay, Livermore and Livermore Falls.

State Rep. Tina Riley, D-Jay, has been very supportive and was there at the last meeting, Kerns-Dube said. The more groups involved, the better the parade, she added.

Committee members are asking that churches, businesses, families and organizations, including Area Youth Sports, to get involved.

Kerns-Dube said she would love to see a lot of children involved.

“We are encouraging every veteran who would like to, to please participate,” she said.
