TX2 with their Mountain Valley Rec Women’s Basketball Tournament championship trophy.
The Mountain Valley Rec Women’s Basketball Tournament was held on March 23, 24 and 25 at Mountain Valley High School. There were five very committed entries whose enthusiasm created a great weekend of basketball.
Mike Perry was able to put together two travel teams of young ladies, Team Extreme 1 and 2. In addition, three other local entries rounded off the field, KR Kamps of Rangeley captained by Allie Hammond and sponsored by Reggie Hammond, Corn, Oats of Dixfield/Canton captained by Karen Magnusson and sponsored by Karl and Jane Lueders . The Ladies of the River Valley captained by Sandra Frisbee. In the championship game, TX2 defeated KR Kamps. MVP was won by Natalie Theriault of TX2.
In addition to games, there were two shooting contests. Ashley Russell of TX1 defeated Tiana Sugars in the foul shooting contest. Also Adrienne Davis of KR Kamps defeated Natalie Theriault in the three-point shooting contest.
Future tournaments will take place annually on the third weekend of March, with The MV Rec Men’s Invitational usually held on the four weekend. There is current discussion of two divisions based on age and skill level and two different courts. Each division could have as many as eight teams and there has already been interests and inquiries in forming new teams for next year.
