LEWISTON — The Twin City Spinners Square Dance Club will hold a free community dance for those interested in trying modern square dancing from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, May 3, at the Martel Elementary School. The club will also hold an open house on Thursday, May 10, at Martel, corner of Lisbon Street and East Avenue.
A new 10-week class will begin Thursday, May 17, at the school. Hours will be 6:30 to 8 p.m. Cost is $45 a dancer. The club will move to an air-conditioned hall in June.
“The music was the biggest surprise,” said one new dancer. “I was expecting just country and bluegrass, but the variety was very refreshing.” Today’s dancing is done to from the best of rock, disco, jazz and hip-hop, as well as country and bluegrass.
It’s not just the exercise, it’s also a social event. It takes eight dancers to make a square and they work together for success. Singles are welcome, partners are encouraged.
