LIVERMORE — The Italian Bakery in Lewiston is holding a fundraiser to buy thermal-imaging cameras for the Livermore Fire Department.
Ben Guild, department training officer and emergency medical responder chief, said the bakery has been offering to do fundraisers to help area fire departments.
“This is perfect timing,” Guild said. “The cameras are showing their age. They’ve seen a lot of action.”
They are about 15 years old and are used to locate people, find hot spots and search for people in wooded areas.
“Our cameras are in good shape, but they’ve been used. Getting them to fit properly in the charging station is a bit challenging now,” Guild said.
He said a new camera with extra batteries and a charging station can cost $3,500 to $7,000. The department has funds set aside to match grants or programs like this.
“This is the first time we’ve partnered with The Italian Bakery,” Guild said. “It would be nice to be able to buy two or more new cameras.”
Orders for baked goods must be placed with The Italian Bakery by Friday, April 27. Delivery will be made from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Sunday, April 29, at the Livermore Town Office Complex, 10 Crash Road. Twenty percent of the profits will go to the department.
Menus are available at the Livermore Town Office. Information can also be found on the bakery’s website, www.theitalianbakery.biz or by calling 207-782-8312.
