OXFORD — Edward M. Lyons Sr. died unexpectedly Tuesday afternoon, April 17, at his home in Oxford. Edward was born in Lynn, Mass., on Aug. 15, 1932.
He worked for New England Telephone & Telegraph company in Lewiston from 1955 until his retirement in 1988. After retirement from the telephone company, Mr. Lyons was active in several community activities. He was recently selected commander of Anderson Staples Post 112 in Oxford on the 100th Anniversary of the American Legion. He is also a past commander of this Post, and has worked on mapping out and placing flags on graves of veterans; the Oxford Hills Rotary; Knights of Columbus; Telephone Pioneers, worked with the “Special Olympics” program and volunteer in the (grill) at Stephens Memorial Hospital, “Known for his good Omelets.” Besides the American Legion, he was a member of the 40/8 and VFW.
Mr. Lyons is predeceased by his parents, John and Mabel Tolman Lyons, his brothers, John, William, Paul, George, and his sisters, Elizabeth Lyons Mayeux and Anna Lyons Langlois.
His is also predeceased by wife, Constance Joan Fallon Lyons, of 59 years. She died in October 2014. They traveled extensively throughout their marriage and enjoyed family time. A loving and caring husband and family man, he and his wife, Connie, had six children, son John and wife Alicia of Suffolk, Va., daughter Donna and husband David of Payson, Ariz., son Timothy and his wife Linda of Ridgecrest, Calif., daughter Debra of Oxford, son Kevin and his partner Michelle from Livermore Falls, son Edward from Norway. Eddie also has 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was an animal lover and leaves behind three fur babies.
Eddie, spent four years on active duty in the United States Navy, from 1951-55 serving in the Korean War and joined the U.S. Navy Reserve serving from 1978 to his retirement ceremony aboard the USS Constitution in Boston in 1994.
An avid Red Sox and Patriots fan, he frequently spent time watching the games with his family members, taking great joy in having witnessed the three Red Sox World Series Championships and five New England Patriots Super Bowl wins.
