HEBRON — Historian and storyteller Steve Pinkham entertained the Hebron Historical Society with Maine woods tales at a recent meeting.
He has researched many articles and documents in various libraries and historical societies on the Maine woods and has hiked many of the state’s mountains and hills mentioned in his stories.
Pinkham has written magazine articles and published books. His first book covered over 450 mountains and hills in the state, including their name origin and location.
His other books, covering “Old Tales of the Maine Woods,” include humorous tales and stories from the period 1849 to 1913. He shared several of these stories with the audience and answered questions concerning the state’s early woodland history and characters.
The society will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, when the program will feature State Historian Earl Shettelworth speaking on “The Maine Homefront in World War I,” on this the 100th anniversary of the Great War. The meeting will take place at the Town Office, 351 Paris Road. The public is invited.
