BETHEL — Mahoosuc Land Trust’s Day in the Life speaker series will continue with “A Day in the Life of an Ocean Swimmer” with Todd Siekman.
As winter ends, the trust is looking toward summer and the first days of swimming season. Siekman is one of the few who will welcome summer by taking the plunge into 50-degree water. He’ll share that experience at a presentation at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 18, at Gould Academy’s McLaughlin Auditorium.
Siekman, who has been and avid swimmer his whole life, began long distance ocean swimming four years ago. He started swimming for two reasons: to support the Lifeflight foundation and as a means of recovering from brain surgery. He swims with from four to 13 other people, ranging from from 13 to 69 years old, accompanied by up to seven kayakers. They typically swim from 1½ miles up to 5½ miles depending on the day, weather conditions and ability of the participants.
