LISBON — Directors of the Parks and Recreation Department and the Lisbon Falls Community Library presented their budgets to the Town Council Tuesday night.
The Parks and Recreation budget totals $644,928, which is $79,060 more than this fiscal year.
Major increases include moving a senior coordinator position from part time to full time and adding a full-time maintenance position.
“The senior coordinator will give our department options for continued growth,” Parks and Recreation Director Mark Stevens said. “The senior and fitness programs are the strongest trends and this person oversees those programs and provides the planning and execution for all excursions, meals and fitness classes.”
The maintenance position will oversee maintenance training, records, scheduling and supervision, according to Stevens.
“They will (also) maintain the ice rinks at Beaver Park and MTM Community Center,” he said. “They will also do plowing and building maintenance (at MTM).”
The library budget is $301,362, an increase of $31,958 from this fiscal year.
Increases include money for mileage, adding another Interlibrary Loan Day and operational supplies, including shares of the Maine Download System, janitorial supplies and DVDs and children’s books, which have risen in price, according to Library Director Diane Nadeau.
“The thing about (the Library and Parks and Recreation) departments is that they’re providing services that people want to take advantage of,” Town Manager Diane Barnes said. “It’s not that they have to go there to do business, it’s that they want to go there.”
The next council meeting is at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 17, at the Town Office.
