FARMINGTON — Regional School Unit 9 directors hope to set a proposed budget Tuesday night to present to voters next month.

The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. April 10 in the Forum at Mt. Blue Campus.

The board unanimously voted Thursday to add $52,000 to the budget for a third-grade teacher. That brings the proposal to $35.37 million, an increase of $1.73 million from this fiscal year budget, which ends June 30.

Director Irv Faunce of Wilton told the audience that does not mean it is approved because it is still a proposed budget.

Superintendent Tom Ward also told the school directors that a 5 percent increase for health insurance was budgeted and it came in at 5.8 percent. It amounts to about $50,000, he said.

The board did not add that amount to the budget Thursday.

The board plans to go over a proposal for an alternative elementary education on Tuesday.

If the board sets the budget Tuesday, it will go to a districtwide vote May 8 at Mt. Blue Campus. The amount approved there would go to a validation referendum May 15 in each of the 10 towns.
