BELGRADE — Police say a Kennebec County Sheriff’s deputy was injured Sunday night on Route 27 when a car veered into the breakdown lane where he was parked and struck his cruiser from behind.
Deputy Jeremy York, 36, was parked in the southbound breakdown lane in his marked 2018 Dodge Charger when Schuyler Mann, 28, of South Portland, also driving southbound in a 2004 Pontiac Vibe, struck the car at 6:15 p.m., according to a press release.
York and Mann’s passenger, Katherine Hynd, 27, of South Portland were taken to Maine General Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
“Deputy York was treated and released by medical staff,” Steve McCausland, the Department of Public Safety spokesperson, wrote in the release. “It was determined that Mann was fatigued and fell asleep prior to the crash.”
State police are investigating.
