TURNER — Turner Public Library’s seventh annual Spring Seminar in Gardening will take place Saturday, April 14, in the downstairs Community Room in the Leavitt Institute Building in Turner Center.
The seminar will start at 9 a.m. with free coffee and doughnuts, and sign-up for door prizes donated by Turner businesses.
The speakers at 9:30 a.m. will be Wes Clark and John Zocchi. Clark owns and operates Clark’s Farm on Route 4. His talk is titled “Annual Flowers for Pot and Baskets — Keep Them Thriving.” He will offer tips on selecting plants, soils, containers and on caring for plants for best results throughout the summer.
Zocchi is a semiretired architect who gardens adventurously at his home on Torrey Hill in North Turner. His presentation is titled “Life in the Underground: Onions, Garlic, Leeks, Shallots …” He will discuss six closely related garden vegetables: how they grow, how to grow them and how to store them for the winter. It will concentrate especially on onions and garlic. Differences and similarities in the methods required for raising each of the plants will be shown.
Door prizes will be drawn between speakers. The seminar will end at noon.
