Conservation district to give awards

FARMINGTON — The Franklin County Soil & Water Conservation District board of supervisors will hold the 70th annual meeting on Friday, April 6, at the W.G. Mallett School, 16 Middle St.

The evening will begin with a welcome and introductions at 5:30 p.m. leading into the complimentary buffet-style dinner. At 6:15 a presentation will be given by Ranger Solar’s permitting director, Aaron Svedlow.

Awards will be presented to Robert Zundel for his many farm conservation practices and James and Gerri Harvell as Outstanding Woodlot Owners. Other special awards will be presented by the board of supervisors and Rep. Russell Black.

The evening will end with the 2018 State Outstanding Tree Farmer Award presentation.

Oxford Hills AARP to hear speaker

PARIS — The Oxford Hills Chapter, AARP, will meet at noon Monday, April 9, at the First Congregational Church, East Main Street, South Paris. Lunch will be served at noon, including a hot chicken salad dish.

The cost is $8, and reservations are required by calling 207-744-9069 by Friday, April 6.

The business meeting will begin at 1 p.m. Collections for the local food pantry as well as the book/puzzle swap will continue. The program will be a speaker from Community Concepts discussing the many programs.

Texas Hold’Em poker

PARIS — The AMVETS monthly Texas Hold’Em poker tournaments are held at from 5 p.m. to midnight on the first Friday of the month at the American Legion Hall.

The event is open to the public. The Auxiliary will have a food concession open from 5 p.m. until the end of second break. There will also be a 50/50 raffle. Buy-in is usually $50 with a license fee of $5 and an optional $5 High Hand.

Wilton scholarship applications

WILTON — Applications for the 2018 Wilton Scholarship Foundation and Hazel Chaney Scholarships are now available online through the School Counseling Office link on the Mt. Blue High School website or in person at the Wilton Town Office.

All current and former graduates from Wilton, East Wilton, East Dixfield, Dryden and Weld are eligible.

Scrap for Hope fundraiser for Hope Association

RUMFORD — A Scrap for Hope scrapbooking and crafting fundraiser will be held from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, April 28, and 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday, April 29, at the Hope Association, 85 Lincoln Ave.

The event is for anyone interested in scrapbooking, painting, quilting, stamping or time away to complete a project.

Proceeds will benefit Hope Association.

Winter Farmers’ Market open

FARMINGTON — The Winter Farmers’ Market is held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays through May at the Grange Hall, 124 Bridge St.

New knitting group to meet 

HARRISON — A new knitting group will start meeting from 1:30 to 3 p.m. Mondays at the Caswell Conservancy Center on Main Street.

The group is open to all regardless of experience.
