FARMINGTON — Regional School Unit 9 directors voted unanimously Tuesday to approve a school calendar for 2018-19.
It calls for 34 one-hour late-arrival Wednesdays beginning Sept. 5.
The last late-arrival Wednesday this year is March 28. The board eliminated the remaining 10 to make up two of nine storm days.
The first day of school for kindergartners through ninth-graders in 2018-19 is Aug. 29. The upper grades will start the following day. There will be no school on Aug. 31 or Sept. 3 for Labor Day weekend.
Teachers will start Aug. 27 and 28 with workshops.
The calendar includes three districtwide, early-release days on Sept. 19 and Dec. 21, 2018, and June 7, 2019. The December early-release day will start Christmas vacation. There are two additional early-release days for prekindergarten through fifth grade on Jan. 18 and May 24, 2019.
In addition, there will be no school on March 22 for a teacher workshop day.
There will be no school Nov. 21 for parent-teacher conferences. It leads into the Thanksgiving Day holiday weekend.
Graduation day is June 16, 2019, according to the calendar.
Following a short business meeting Tuesday, directors began review of a preliminary proposed budget of $$35.32 million for 2018-19. It’s $1.68 million more than the current budget.
The board will meet at 6:30 p.m. Thursday in the Forum at Mt. Blue Campus to continue review of the spending proposal.
