LISBON — School principals presented information to the School Committee on Monday evening about programs that provide extra help to students.

At Lisbon Community School, students have 30 minutes each day for additional support on specific topics.

“The response to intervention rounds are up to seven weeks long,” Principal Robert Kahler said. “And the teachers keep track weekly of what skills the students are working on and there’s a weekly assessment where they track the use of that data.”

At Philip W. Sugg Middle School, students focus on necessary skills four times per week.

“This is not a study hall,” Principal Darren Akerman said. “It’s not a time to make up homework. It’s really time to focus on those skills that are needed.”

Principal Susan Magee at Lisbon High School discussed multiple interventions for students, including credit recovery classes, adult education and online courses.

“It’s really about teaching kids the balance of their support and letting them fly,” she said.

The next committee meeting is at 6 p.m. April 9 at the Town Office.
