Award-winning American author Ottessa Moshfegh will read from and discuss her works at Bates College, Wednesday, March 29, at 6:30 p.m. in the Muskie Archives and at the University of Maine at Farmington, Thursday, March 29 at 7:30 p.m. and The Landing in the UMF Olsen Student Center.
Moshfegh is a fiction writer from New England. Her first book, “McGlue, a novella,” won the Fence Modern Prize in Prose and the Believer Book Award. “Eileen,” her first novel, was shortlisted for the National Book Critics Circle Award and the Man Booker Prize, and won the PEN/Hemingway Award for debut fiction. About her 2017 work,”Homesick for Another World,” Michael Schaub, NPR said: Anyone who’s experienced the special kind of homesickness that lacks a home will find something to relate to in Moshfegh’s unsettling, sharp stories.”
Her next book, “My Year of Rest and Relaxation,” a novel, is due out in July. She lives in Southern California.
The Bates talk is part of the Visiting Writers Series and at UMF is sponsored by the University of Maine at Farmington’s bachelor of fine arts in creative writing program.
The event is free and open to the public.
