POLAND — Janice Doris Leonas, 76, of Poland, passed away on Thursday, March 15, at her home surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Lewiston on Nov. 21, 1941, a daughter of the late Joseph Albert Bordeau and Doris Etta (Taylor) Bordeau. She attended local schools, graduating from Edward Little High School in the Class of 1960. She continued her education until marrying the love of her life, Daniel J. Leonas, at St. Patrick’s Church in Lewiston on April 28, 1962. She was a past employee of The Maine State Board of Nursing, having worked at St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center Admitting Office, the offices of Dori Shoe Co. and Veribest Systems. In 1981, she joined her husband, Dan, at City Cab Company, working there until April 2011, and, served as vicepresident of Crown Limousine Service until June of 2011. She was a member of the YWCA as a Y-Teen and became a former president from 1981 through 1983. She was a member of the Poland Spring Preservation Society, the Mainely Madames Red Hatters, former member of the Woman’s Literary Union and the United Way of Androscoggin County, serving on the Annual Fundraising Campaign and Participating Agencies Committee.
Janice is survived by her husband of almost 56 years, Daniel J. Leonas of Poland; her son, Daniel J. Leonas Jr. of Poland; her daughter, Lynda G. Leonas of Lewiston; granddaughter, Crystal Jordan of Auburn; two great-grandsons, Javin and J’ayce; great-granddaughter, J’ayda; two sisters, Beverly Schwab and husband, Fred, of Brunswick and Donna Morris and husband, William, of Walls, Miss.; one brother, Bruce Bordeau and wife, Pat, of Rochester, N.H.; two sisters-in law, Madeline Young and husband, Roger, of Cumberland and Suzanne Bishop of Topsham; former sister-in-law, Donna Jacques; stepbrothers and sisters, Mark, Martin, and Marlene Langelier and Maureen Hardaway; one aunt, Joyce King of Greene; one uncle, Edward Taylor and wife, Anita, of Greene; five nephews, Joseph Bordeau of Norwich, Conn., Lance Morris of St. Louis, Missouri, Benjamin Leonas of Auburn, Frederick Schwab III of Brunswick and Todd Nadeau of Sabattus; 12 nieces, Ruth DeCoster of Auburn, Mary Beale of Portland, Ellen Kelley of Tampa, Florida, Jennifer Nicholson of Brunswick, Stephanie Hart of Freeport, Sherry Young, Martha Tamborra and Shirley Ann O’Conner of Rochester, N.H., and Beth Beatty of Norwich, Conn.; and many special cousins and friends.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her in-laws, James and Lillian Leonas; her stepfather, Roger Langelier; one nephew; David Bordeau of Lexington, Ky.; one niece, Roberta Cox of Norwich, Conn.; and her beloved sister, Shirley Anne Greeley of Auburn.
