RUMFORD — Holy Savior School at 115 Maine Ave. will close at the end of this school year because of declining enrollment and finances, according to a news release. 

“For over a century, students, teachers, and parishioners have generously supported Catholic education in Rumford,” Bishop Robert P. Deeley of the Diocese of Portland said. “The closing of this school is not a result of a lack of generosity, but simply a demographic and financial reality. Holy Savior Parish and the diocese will use this sad moment to strengthen our resolve to evangelize.”

The bishop said the parish will continue to provide “faith formation” to the students after the school closes, and will assist parents and guardians in finding new Catholic schools for next year.

The school, which began construction in 1912, serves students from kindergarten through eighth grade.
