JAY — The Jay Village Water District lifted the boil-water order Friday for the majority of its customers, but not the Verso-Androscoggin Mill and residents in Riley village.

District Superintendent Mike Wells is working with Ted Berry Co. of Livermore to determine where the waterline break is in the Androscoggin River, Town Manager Shiloh LaFreniere said.

Wells is also trying to line up a diving crew to do a temporary fix on the line until a permanent solution is developed, LaFreniere said.

She has been receiving information from Wells to convey to customers.

The district is a separate entity from the town.

District representatives have worked since Sunday afternoon with consultants and others, finally locating the break Thursday about 10 feet off the riverbank off Route 140.

The waterline was installed in the river years ago to go from Route 140 to Riley Road where the paper mill is located.
