JAY — Jay Village Water District representatives believe they have isolated a waterline break about 10 feet into the Androscoggin River.

Representatives shut a valve Thursday and saw water bubbling up in the river, Town Manager Shiloh LaFreniere said.

LaFreniere has been trying to keep residents updated with information from district Superintendent Mike Wells.

The district is managed by a board of trustees.

The waterline was installed years ago from Route 140 across the river to Riley Road to reach the Verso-Androscoggin paper mill and residences in Riley village.

District representatives have been searching for the leak since 4 p.m. Sunday. They have secured the valve in the line that provides water to the mill and the Riley area, and have restored water to all of Route 140, LaFreniere said.

District representatives continue to investigate repairs.

Water samples have been taken to Augusta to be tested.

The boil-water order remains in effect for customers north of Subway on Route 4.

LaFreniere said she will post an update on the town’s Facebook page when more information becomes available on the boil-water order.
