DEAR SUN SPOTS: The National Federation of the Blind of Maine is sponsoring a Bowl-A-Thon from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, May 20, at Sparetime Recreation, 24 Mollison Way, Lewiston.

DEAR SUN SPOTS: Here is an unusual request for you to tackle. Why is the background music so loud on NCIS when I watch the show on Channel 5? The minute the background music starts, it gets so loud that I can barely hear the actors speaking! However, if I change the channel to 13 or see an NCIS marathon on the USA channel, the background music stays muted. It can’t be my television and it can’t be the show itself. Could it be the station? I would be very interested if you could solve this mystery.

ANSWER: Well, this is not my area of expertise at all. Is it only the NCIS show? I don’t know who you have for your cable TV service, but I would start by contacting them and explaining the situation if it’s only that particular show. If the volume of the background music on all the shows you watch is too loud, the problem is with the settings on your TV remote. They can be adjusted but I can’t give you specifics without knowing more details.
