I write in response to the article about the Auburn School Department’s ruling about the planned student walkout at Edward Little High School. A vigil for an act of terrorism in which 17 students and teachers died is a “political demonstration,” and the School Department stated it doesn’t want to favor one position over another? Am I to understand the department condones such violence, or thinks there is a reasonable argument for it that another group could make?
A “balanced approach”? What possible balance point do the department and superintendent believe exists?
I am appalled that my home town of Auburn and my alma mater (ELHS) have such a spineless attitude. Can department officials not see the difference between this issue and supporting one political candidate over another? Have they no shame?
Their policy answers that last question quite adequately.
