LEWISTON — A local man has admitted to crimes stemming from his abuse of his girlfriend’s children who suffered broken bones and other injuries.

Laquavius Hudson, 21, of 50 Fairmount St. pleaded guilty to two misdemeanors: domestic violence assault and endangering the welfare of a child. Both charges are Class D crimes, each punishable by up to 364 days in jail.

In an agreement with prosecutors, he was sentenced on the first charge to 260 days in jail, time that he has already served. On the second charge, he was sentenced to nine months in jail, with all of that time suspended. He will be on probation for six months.

Terms of probation include no dangerous weapons for which he can be randomly search, complete evaluation, counseling and treatment for mental health issues and domestic violence, have no contact with his girlfriend and her three young children. If he violates them he could be sentenced to serve the nine months that was suspended.

Twelve original charges against him, including six felony assault counts, were dropped by the District Attorney’s Office.

According to court documents, one of the children was 18 months old. The others were 4 and 5 years old.

Hudson’s girlfriend and mother of the three children, Raven Sullivan, 22, also of Lewiston, pleaded guilty in August to one misdemeanor count and was sentenced to 364 days in jail. That sentence was suspended and she was placed on probation for one year.

According to court documents, Lewiston police began investigating in November 2016 when Sullivan took her then-4-year-old daughter to St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center in Lewiston with a broken left arm. X-rays taken at the hospital revealed prior fractures of the same arm that were still healing, according to an affidavit in court papers.

Medical officials at St. Mary’s referred the case to the Department of Health and Human Services, which ordered that the other two children be examined, as well. Later that month, all three children were examined at an agency in Portland.

The Portland agency reported to police that it found six healing rib fractures on the 4-year-old, as well as multiple fractures of the arms and a skin injury from being struck by a looped cord, according to the affidavit.

Medical officials found seven rib fractures on the 18-month-old child, as well as healing fractures of bones in the arms, shoulders and legs. The 5-year-old was found to have four healing rib fractures, according to the affidavit.
