WILTON — The First Congregational Church, UCC, of Wilton kicked off its bicentennial celebration with two successful events during February.

Maine UCC Conference Outdoor Ministries Committee representatives Karen Choate and her daughter, Ruth, visited the morning worship service on Feb. 11.  Karen gave a talk on “The ABC’s of Pilgrim Lodge.” Pilgrim Lodge, the UCC summer camp, is not just for kids as there are several sessions for adults as well as some for family groups.

The “Birthday Bash” was well attended when about 60 people were at a meal, which included a large birthday cake with a picture of the church on it. During and after the meal, Alan Hutchinson entertained with music played on the piano.

The next event will be a corned beef and cabbage dinner at 6 p.m. Saturday, March 17, in the vestry of the church, followed by entertainment in the sanctuary by the Sandy River Ramblers at 7 p.m.  All are welcome.  Donations will be accepted at the door.

Church members also plan to recognize groups that contribute community service to Wilton. The first group to be honored will be the Wilton Lions Club on Palm Sunday, March 25.  All members of the Wilton Lions Club and their families are invited to worship at 9:30 a.m.
