LEWISTON — James “Jim” K. Harwood Jr. passed away at Central Maine Medical Center on Thursday, Feb. 1, after a short illness. He was the son of the late Martha Coolidge Harwood and James Kendall Harwood Sr.
He is survived by his loving wife, Helen Brawn Harwood; his daughter Holli-Anne Lottie Harwood; his son James Brawn Harwood; his nephew Daniel Moore; and his adoring cats Tux and Isabelle.
He was born in Bennington, Vt., on Aug. 25, 1945. He was raised in the mountains of Vermont working on his grandfather’s farm hunting and fishing. He would often reminisce about making maple syrup with his grandfather
Jim enlisted in the Army and served in the infantry, artillery and finally as a nuclear technician. During that time, he was stationed at Ft. Sill, Korea, Germany, and Greece.
Jim worked for Diamond International as a log roller for many years until their closure. He was employed at Colby College and lastly at Geiger Brothers in maintenance.
In his later years, Jim battled Alzheimer’s and multiple amputations. During that time, he was an unstoppable and loving husband and father.
