HEBRON — Beth Olsen has announced her candidacy for a three-year seat on the Board of Selectmen.

“Hebron has been my home for going on six years,” said Olsen in a statement issued Tuesday.  “I come from a small town in Maine where my community involvement was a high priority and my goal is to be an active part of my community here in Hebron as well.  Keeping a small community feel, keeping taxes low, and providing quality services are important to me.  I appreciate the job that the current selectmen are doing and look forward to serving with them.”

Olsen, who serves as the Town Clerk in Oxford, is seeking the seat being vacated by long-time Selectman Jim Reid.

Reid announced last week that he is stepping down in order to allow “new blood” onto the board. Fellow selectboard members Richard Deans and Dan Eichorn are also long-time members of the board.

Olsen will seek a nomination from the floor and election to the seat at the Annual Town Meeting on Saturday, March 17. Election of officers tops the warrant for the  Annual Town Meeting at the Hebron Station School on Station Road, beginning at 10 a.m.  Unlike most towns in the area, Hebron does not have a paper nomination process and candidates must be nominated from the floor.

Olsen, a graduate of Husson College with a degree in accounting and computer programming, grew up in Greenville and lived in the Jackman area for 30 years. The mother of two sons, including one who is serving overseas on deployment and a second who owns a contracting business, Olsen has been active in the communities she has resided in including serving as Town Clerk in Moose River for five years.

A Maine Guide, Olsen also served with and was president of the Down East Sled Fog Club.

“I would appreciate your support,” she said to voters in Hebron.
