DEAR SUN SPOTS: Does anyone have old interior paneled or “Christian” (also called “Cross and Bible”) doors they would like to give away or sell for a reasonable price? I would like to use them for a wall I am building in my basement. Please contact me at 207-241-7090.
—Julien, Auburn
DEAR SUN SPOTS: About a year ago, you had names of people who do appraisals on silver items. I cut it out, but have lost it. I’m wondering if you still have the reference.
—Mary Ann, Oxford
ANSWER: I try to keep the famous Rolodex plumped up and organized! Here is the information in Sun Spots from a year ago:
If you own items that you believe have significant value, it’s a good idea to have them appraised for insurance purposes, estate settlement or planning purposes, or even if you’re just curious about their value and want to sell them. There are several antique and personal property appraisers in Maine. Here are a few who appraise silver: Daniel Buck Auctions, 501 Lisbon St. in Lisbon Falls (407-1444) or through their website www.danielbuckauctions.com; G.W. Bell Antiques, 124 Gray Road in Falmouth (797-9386) or email gbell23@maine.rr.com; and Bruce A. Buxton, Appraiser of Fine Art & Antiques in Portland (772-6979) or send a message through his website, www.bruceabuxton.com.
DEAR SUN SPOTS: I’ve been reading Sun Spots for years. You’re the best! Can you list a contact where I can get a personalized signed Red Sox photo for my disabled sister’s birthday?
—No name, no town
ANSWER: You don’t say what player you are looking for, but The MLB Shop at www.mlbshop.com sells all sorts of favorite sport team memorabilia with autographs across a varied price range. Also check out Fanatics Authentic at www.fanaticsauthentic.com and be sure to look at eBay and Amazon. You can also contact The Baseball Hall of Fame Gift Shop in Cooperstown, New York at 877-290-1300. They are open seven days a week from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. To peruse the online store, go to https://shop.baseballhall.org/. I don’t think these items can be personalized but they are autographed. Readers, do you have any other ideas?
Have fun surprising your sis!
DEAR SUN SPOTS: Does anyone in the Lewiston-Auburn area carry Stonewall Kitchen products? I’m looking for their raspberry syrup.
—No name, Lewiston
ANSWER: Pineland Farms at 15 Farm View Road in New Gloucester (207-688-4539) has these yummy products. They are open Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturdays and Sundays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Women’s Hospital Association Gift Shop at 300 Main St. in Lewiston (207-795-2255) sells Stonewall Kitchen products, too.
You can also order the syrup online for $7.50 plus shipping at www.stonewallkitchen.com. I have to say that a road trip to Stonewall Kitchen’s home in York is definitely worth it if you have the time. Be prepared to come away with a lot more than raspberry syrup. You won’t be able to resist!
DEAR SUN SPOTS: Thank goodness we have Sun Spots ready to help us. Does anyone know of any people who will list my items on eBay for me? I could use some help downsizing and would greatly appreciate this service. Thank you!
