AUBURN — Gail E. LaBelle, 63, of Lewiston, passed away following a long illness on Saturday, Feb. 24, at The Androscoggin Hospice House in Auburn.
She was born in Biddeford on Aug. 12, 1954, the daughter of the late John and Monique (Gosselin) Sklillings. She attended school in various parts of the nation, graduating from Scarborough High School in 1973 and ultimately earned her master’s degree. She worked and lived in Goose Creek, South Carolina, before moving back to Maine six years ago. She worked as an occupational therapist for the federal government before retiring in 2013. She was brought up in the Catholic faith and remained a person of great faith throughout her life. While in South Carolina, she was a member of The Red Hat Ladies Association. She loved taking care of animals, reading, gardening and taking benefit walks for various charitable organizations, especially The American Cancer Society. She had a great passion for geneology and learning about her family history, but her greatest joy in life was the time spent with her grandchildren, especially having ice cream with them.
Gail is survived by her sons, Justin S. LaBelle and wife, Kris, and Darren Clukey and wife, Keysha; her brothers, Gary Skillings and wife, Donna, and John and James Scates; many grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her son Joshua LaBelle who passed Nov. 22, 2017.
