FARMINGTON — A Carthage man, who was charged in December with setting his father’s truck on fire, is accused of tampering with a witness in the case, according to a state fire investigator’s statement.

Spencer Knox, 23, was arrested Thursday night on a warrant charging witness tampering and violating bail conditions. He was taken to the Franklin County Detention Center in Farmington where bail was set at $10,000 cash.

Knox was arrested on the arson charge Dec. 21 at his parents’ home at 1511 West Side Road where he lived. Investigator Jeremy Damren of the state Fire Marshal’s Office said previously that Knox torched his father’s truck Dec. 15 after a family fight.

Knox was released from jail Jan. 9 on $50,000 worth of real estate with conditions that he not commit crimes, not possess alcohol or illegal drugs and not contact witnesses in the arson case.

Since then, Knox has made threats toward witnesses and consumed alcohol on several occasions, according to Damren’s affidavit.

On Jan. 18, a Franklin County grand jury indicted Knox on two counts of arson, one count of aggravated criminal mischief and one count of operating after license suspension.

Knox remained at the Franklin County Detention Center on Friday night, a corrections officer said.
