Journalism scholarships available
The Journalism Education Foundation of New England will award a number of $1,000 scholarships to high school seniors and college students in the six-state region who plan to pursue a career in journalism.
Students in the Lewiston Sun Journal circulation area are eligible for the scholarships.
Interested students can download the scholarship application from the NENPA website. The deadline for applications is March 9.
Scholarship available for agriculture education
ELLSWORTH — Graduating seniors from Maine high schools who are National Future Farmers of America Organization members and interested in pursuing a career in farming, agriculture or natural resources are invited to apply for a Ronald P. Guerrette FFA Scholarship through the Maine Community Foundation.
The fund was created in 1998 by friends and family to honor the life and work of Ronald P. Guerrette of Caribou. The fund provides one $1,000 scholarship a year. The application deadline is March 1.

Search underway to find former USS Intrepid crew members
NEW YORK, N.Y. — Aug. 16 will mark the 75th anniversary of the commissioning of the USS Intrepid (CVS-11), the World War II-era Essex class aircraft carrier that is now home to the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum in New York City.
To mark the occasion, the Intrepid Museum is putting out a coast-to-coast “all call” for former Intrepid crew members to be reunited in a special 75th Commissioning Anniversary Celebration Weekend from Thursday to Sunday, Aug. 16 to 19, on board Intrepid.
The museum is also accepting donations of personal artifacts and memorabilia from former crew members and their families.

Annual Hope Gala, silent auction
AUBURN — Tri-County Mental Health Services fifth annual Hope Gala and Silent Auction will be held from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday, March 24, at Hilton Garden Inn Auburn Riverwatch, 14 Great Falls Plaza.
Kevin Mannix, News Center weather forecaster, will be the emcee for an evening of celebration, amusement and prizes. Wavelengths will provide the music for listening and dancing.
Guests are encouraged to bid on a variety of prizes and the proceeds will be used to help support Tri-County Mental Health Services and the work that it does.

Fabric Fair at High Street Congregational Church.
AUBURN — The High Street Congregational Church is seeking donations of fabric and craft supplies for the annual Fabric & Craft Supply Fair to be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 14.
Donations of fabric, yarn and craft supplies may be dropped off from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays.

Sewing/Quilting Group to gather
POLAND — The Sewing/Quilting Group will meet from noon to 4 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 22, at A.B. Ricker Memorial Library. Cynthia Maxwell will teach how to make a quilted table runner. The class is free and all are welcome.
Participants will need to bring a half yard each of two contrasting fabrics, three-quarters yard of fabric for the backing, and three-quarters yard of thin polyester batting. Thin batting is preferred so the runner will not be too bulky.
The class is small and levels of expertise are from beginner to experienced. For more information, call the library at 207-998-4390.
