This is in response to an Associated Press article in the Sun Journal (Feb. 5), “Group seeks health care for elderly and disabled.”

How could anyone possibly oppose free health care for the needy? In my opinion, though, the initiative is a sham, perpetrated by the Maine People’s Alliance, which is funded by billionaire George Soros. I believe their ultimate goal is to achieve a universal, single-payer system for home health care.

Soros targets Maine because it is easy to get enough signatures (using outside workers and money) to put almost any socialist agenda item onto the ballot. Usually, opposition is no match for the well-funded Alliance.

According to the article, the proposed home health initiative would cost Maine taxpayers $310 million a year and establish a new entitlement program. If Soros and the Maine People’s Alliance are successful in creating such a program, it would be all but impossible to rescind.

Thomas Jefferson said “If we are to guard against ignorance and remain free, it is the responsibility of every American to be informed.” People must recognize that the true goal of the Maine People’s Alliance is to get a foothold for its socialist programs in Maine, through the voter initiative process and then help Soros spread a big-government, entitlement agenda throughout the country.
