Environmental Protection Agency administrator Scott Pruitt’s proposal to repeal Obama-era environmental regulations will endanger the health and safety of Americans in order to benefit giant fossil fuel corporations. As attorney general in Oklahoma, Pruitt challenged the Clean Power Plan in court and now, as head of the EPA, he will be able to follow through with its repeal.
The Clean Power Plan was designed to encourage fossil fuel corporations to shift to a more renewable approach by levying taxes on excess pollution. Its repeal will mean less healthy air, water and soil for all Americans, while simultaneously discouraging the fossil fuel industry from seeking healthier fuel alternatives.
Pruitt’s interests lie now as they did when he was Oklahoma attorney general — with the profit margins of already ridiculously powerful and wealthy corporations.
I hope others will join me in making our resistance to this senseless repeal of progressive legislation known, but it seems unlikely that the will of those effected will be enough to sway someone so clearly bought and sold by corporate interests.
